Public Statement - Call for commonsense and consistency from retailers for treatment of refueling motorcyclists
The Tasmanian Motorcycle Council (TMC) calls for commonsense and consistency from retailers in treatment of motorcyclists' purchasing fuel. The TMC appreciates the safety concerns of retailers regarding head coverings that obscure the face; however motorcyclists have reported that they have been asked to remove a helmet when their face is fully visible.
In a letter received by TMC, motorcyclist, Michael Tong Lee, states that he has received inconsistent advice from a major retailer regarding the requirement to remove a flip top motorcycle helmet when paying for fuel. A flip top helmet is one where the entire front section of the helmet lifts up, revealing the full face of the motorcyclist.
'If the rider's face is clearly visible, there are no legitimate reasons for requiring removal of the helmet', stated TMC President, Paul Bullock.
